Cooking Knife- Roman/ Gallo-Roman

Socketed knives seem to be found right across the Roman Empire in one form or another and I can't remember the last time I walked into a museum and didn't see one in their collection!

With a laminated iron body, a steel cutting edge and fitted with a beech handle, this one was most likely a cooking knife- in fact it is almost exactly the same shape as one found in a kitchen in Pompeii.
